WRITING PROMPT How was life different in the past? Compare your own life to life in a past decade. Then write a paragraph with the information. Share your paragraph with an adult relative or teacher.
When you prewrite, you gather ideas and choose your topic. You also make a plan for what you will write. Follow these steps.
1 COLLECT IDEAS
Pick a time in history to study. Use information sources to learn about the past. Work with your teacher or a librarian to find and use information sources.
2 COLLECT FACTS
Make a chart. Collect facts about the past in the first column of your chart. Collect pictures or make drawings to show life in history.
3 MAKE A PLAN
For each fact about the decade, write how it is the same as or different from today.
