Future Tense Verbs and Contractions

A verb in the future tense tells what will happen later, or in the future.

Here are some ways to show the future tense.

will + verbOur band will play at the park next week.
amI am going to play the guitar.
are + going to + verbYou are going to sing.
isThe concert is going to be great!
We will practice tonight.
we’ll + verbWe’ll practice tonight.
The contraction for we will is we’ll.
We will not stop until we know every song!
won’t + verbWe won’t stop until we know every song!
The contraction for will not is won’t.

Build Sentences

Change each sentence to tell about the future. Say each sentence 2 different ways.

    Example

  • 1. We will practice at Ana’s house.

    We are going to practice at Ana’s house.

  • 1. We practice at Ana’s house.

  • 2. You and Ana learn a new song.

  • 3. It sounds great.

  • 4. Many people hear our music at the park.

  • 5. We become superstars!

Use the contraction won’t to make each sentence negative. Say the new sentence.

    Example

  • 6. I won’t sing.

  • 6. I will sing.

  • 7. You will play the guitar.

  • 8. Ana will get worried.

  • 9. We will forget the songs.

  • 10. The audience will want to leave.
