THE VERBS CAN, COULD, MAY, MIGHTEXAMPLES
You can use the verbs can, could, may, or might with an action verb to express:
  • • the ability to do something

  • • a possibility, or the chance that something may happen

A hurricane can cause a lot of damage.
Several inches of rain might fall in just a few minutes.
The wind may blow at high speeds.
It might knock over trees.
It could break windows.
PRESENT TENSE VERBSEXAMPLES
The tense of a verb shows when an action happens.
The present tense of a verb tells about an action that is happening now, or in the present.My mom looks at her charts.
She checks her computer screen.
She takes notes.
The present tense of a verb can also tell about an action that happens regularly or all the time.My mom works for the local TV station.
She is a weather forecaster.
She reports the weather every night at 5 p.m.
The present progressive form of a verb tells about an action as it is happening.
It uses am, is, or are and a main verb. The main verb ends in -ing.
Right now, she is getting ready for the show.
“I can’t believe it!” she says. “I am looking at a terrible storm!”
The high winds are starting to blow.
Trees are falling down.
