[RIDDLER 100 leans over to the SERVANT. The SERVANT whispers the answer in his ear.]

RIDDLER 100. The answer is a comb—the teeth in a comb can’t bite anything. I win!

PRINCESS. You have only won part of the contest. You have answered my riddle, but you haven’t given me one that I can’t answer. Those are the rules. Do you have another riddle for me?

[RIDDLER 100 leans again toward the SERVANT, who whispers to him.]

RIDDLER 100. [sneers] Can you guess this one? It has eyes but cannot see.

PRINCESS. That’s easy. The eyes of a potato can’t see. [hopping to her feet] I’d like for the servant to enter the contest. He seems to be the one with all the knowledge.

[The SERVANT looks surprised.]

RIDDLER 100. [angrily] That’s nonsense. I won’t allow it!

PRINCESS. Too bad. This riddle is for you, Servant: It is like a roaring lion, running with his mane flying all around him.

SERVANT. [happily] That’s one of my favorites. The answer is a storm. I can see the dark clouds as they roll in. The thunder rumbles, and the lightning flashes all around. I love storms almost as much as I love riddles.

PRINCESS. Give me one!

SERVANT. As you wish: More valuable than silver or gold, Yet it cannot be bought or sold.

PRINCESS. [thinking] I—I don’t know. What is it? [smiles and winks to let the SERVANT know that she really knows the answer]
