Make Comparisons

Find two pictures of things that you can compare, such as two types of cars. Cut the pictures from old magazines or download them from the Internet.

Study the two pictures, and make comparisons. How are they alike? How are they different? Complete a T Chart about your pictures.

Use Adjectives that Compare

When you make comparisons, you describe how things are alike or different. Use comparison adjectives—words that compare nouns.

  • • Add -er to the end of adjectives that have one syllable.

    EXAMPLEoldolder
  • • If the adjective ends in y, change the y to i, then add -er.

    EXAMPLEearlyearlier
  • • If the adjective has three or more syllables, use more before the adjective.
