Engage in Discussion

Sports are exciting to watch and play. What sport do you find exciting? Find a sports photo in a magazine, newspaper, or on the Internet. Or, if you play sports, bring in a photo of yourself in action.

Make a list of things you might say to start a discussion about the photo with your classmates.

Work with a group. Take turns sharing the sports photos each of you found. Tell about your photo, and discuss the others.

Use Indefinite Pronouns

When you engage in a discussion, you may use indefinite pronouns if you are not talking about a specific person or thing. Make sure your subjects and verbs agree.

Singular indefinite pronouns:

Joy and Jan like baseball. Neither thinks softball is quite as exciting as baseball. I think nothing is better than a friendly softball game.

Plural indefinite pronouns:

Many hope this team will make it to the finals this year. Others believe this team is struggling.
