Focus on Genre Kinds of Nonfiction

In this unit, you learned about kinds of nonfiction. Choose a selection from the unit and draw a diagram or other graphic to show the type of information found in that type of nonfiction. For example, if you choose an autobiography, you might want to use a time line. For a science article, you could use a 5Ws Chart, a Topic Triangle, or a Main-Idea Diagram. You could even make a drawing of a new cover. Use your graphic to explain the type of nonfiction to a partner.

Reading Strategy Determine Importance

As you read the selections, you learned to determine importance. Explain to a partner how you will use this strategy in the future.

Explore the Guiding Question

Throughout this unit, you have been thinking about how amazing the human body is. Choose one of these ways to explore the Guiding Question:

  • Discuss With a group, discuss a movie, television show, or sporting event you’ve seen that helped you understand how amazing the human body is.

  • Draw Create a visual of an athlete competing in an event. Tell a partner what the athlete needs to be able to do to win the event. Use details from the selections in your description.

  • Write Based on what you read in the selections, write a routine a person could follow to stay healthy. Include food and exercise and explain why each is important.
