In this unit, you learned about text features. Choose a selection from the unit, and create a new text feature for one part of the selection. This can be a map, chart, graph, or an image. Use your text feature to explain a part of the selection to a partner.

Explore the Guiding Question

Throughout this unit, you have been thinking about what happens when cultures cross paths. Choose one of these ways to explore the Guiding Question:

• • Discuss With a group, discuss a time when you met someone from a different cultural background than your own. What did you learn about the other person that you didn’t know before?

• • Role-Play With a partner, role-play an interview with a European settler. Decide which role each person will play. Plan the questions and answers. Then conduct the interview.

• • Draw Make a visual representation of the poem “Old World New World.” Explain your artwork.
