How Athletes Prepare
Training
Whether you want to be a track star or a great baseball player, it is important to train hard. A true athlete knows the right kinds of exercises to build muscles.
Stretching
It is very important to stretch both sides of your body before every game or race. Even if you throw with your right arm, you need to stretch your left side, too.
Tracking
It is helpful to track your progress as you work out. This helps you see how much you’ve improved. It also helps you focus on your goal like a train speeding toward the station.
Results
If you have worked hard, your body will still have strength left in the final stretch of the race or game. Your strength will last through the entire game, even if you come in last.

The Excitement of Baseball
The batter slides into home plate.
A high school baseball game is an exciting event. Of course the players are excited, but so are the fans. The beats of the drums in the band increase the mood. Then suddenly a batter sends a ball sailing over the fence and the team scores two runs! That’s when the excitement reaches its highest pitch. It’s the most exciting night of the spring.
