Focus on Genre: Persuasive Essay

A persuasive essay is nonfiction that states an argument. The author’s purpose is to persuade, or convince, readers to agree with that argument. To do that, the author presents evidence that supports the opinion. Evidence may include facts, statistics, quotes from experts, personal remarks, or words that appeal to the emotions. Readers study the evidence to decide if they agree.
