Trees absorb carbon dioxide and use it when they make food. Increased deforestation means fewer trees. This adds to the buildup of carbon dioxide in the air and contributes to the greenhouse effect. As certain gases in Earth’s atmosphere increase, Earth may get too warm.
Environmentalists encourage careful management of the forests so people do not damage them. They call for replanting after forests are cut down. They support creation of national parks to protect the forests and the animals that live there.
