Focus on Genre: Autobiography

An autobiography is narrative nonfiction in which the writer tells the story of his or her life or of an important experience in it. The author of an autobiography is the narrator. He or she tells the story from first-person point of view.

The narrator often uses the words I, me, we, and us. Look for words that show the first-person point of view.
