Throughout this unit, you have been thinking about what it takes to survive a rival. Choose one of these ways to explore the Guiding Question:

  • Discuss In these selections, it is not always the strongest who succeed. In a group, discuss what it really takes to win. Share examples from your life, and listen to the experiences of others.

  • Ask Questions On a slip of paper, write the name of a character in one of the selections. Don’t tell which one you have chosen. Take turns asking a partner questions to guess which character it is.

  • Write and Draw Draw a real or made-up creature that has what it takes to survive. Add labels to identify and explain its special features.
