Use Nouns in the Subject and Predicate

A complete sentence has two parts: the subject and the predicate. The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. The predicate often tells what the subject does.

EXAMPLE People choose different places to live.

  • • Nouns can be the subject of a sentence.

EXAMPLEPeoplesubject choose different places to live.
  • • Nouns can also be the object of an action verb. To find the object, turn the verb into a question like: “Choose what?” Your answer is the object.

EXAMPLEPeople chooseverb different placesobject to live.
  • • Many English sentences follow this pattern: subject → verb → object
