Five Species of tigers are still alive today. They live in the wild only in Asia.
Bengal
Population: Scientists believe there are between 3,000-5,000 tigers in the wild.
Indochinese
Population: Scientists believe there are fewer than 2,000 tigers in the wild.
Sumatran
Population: Scientists believe there are about 400 tigers in the wild.
Siberian
Population: Scientists believe there are fewer than 400 tigers in the wild.
South China
Population: Scientists believe there are no tigers left in the wild.
• The Siberian tiger is the largest type of tiger. An adult male can grow to be more than 10 feet long and weigh more than 600 pounds.
• Female tigers usually give birth to two or three cubs at a time.
• A newborn cub weighs between two and three pounds.
• Big cats such as tigers can roar, but they can’t purr.
• Tigers are one of the few cats that like to swim in water.
