Adverbs are words that describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Adverbs can tell how, when, or where.
• Use an adverb to describe a verb. Many adverbs end in -ly.
EXAMPLE | The animal suddenly makes verb a noise. (how) |
Tell how | The scientist hikes silently through the rainforest. |
Tell when | She sometimes stops to watch and listen. |
Tell where | The monkeys look down at the scientist. |
• Use an adverb to make an adjective or another adverb stronger.
EXAMPLES | The rainforest is unusually quiet adjective. |
