Folk tales are short fictional narratives that typically explain a wise action or how things came to be. Folk tales were originally told orally and then handed down from one generation to the next.

Some folk tales use cause-and-effect organization to express their message.

As you read folk tales, look for familiar themes, or messages, that appear in tales from many cultures.
