Work for Change
Alexis: Mom, Mrs. Park needs a babysitter so she can volunteer at the soup kitchen. You know Mrs. Park. She lives on the corner. She has a little girl and needs a sitter on Tuesdays after school and on Saturday mornings. Babysitting would be a great job for me.
Mother: Yes, babysitting can be good experience, Alexis, but it is also hard work and a big responsibility. I don’t think it’s a good idea because you won’t have time for your homework.
Alexis: I understand what you’re saying, Mom, but I really want this job. I can do my homework in study hall.
Father: I have an idea. How about if you babysit just on Saturday morning? If you help Mrs. Park one morning a week, it will give you valuable experience and leave enough time for homework, chores, and other activities.
Alexis: That sounds like a great idea, Dad. I’ll get experience and make a little spending money, and I won’t have a conflict with school work.
