Certain words in this glossary have a red dot indicating that they are academic vocabulary words. These are the words that you will use as you study many different subjects in school.

v. for verb
adj. for adjective
adv. for adverb
part of speech
The definition gives the meaning of the word.
The red dot signals that a word is an academic vocabulary word. Not all words have a red dot.
The sample sentence uses the word in a way that shows its meaning.
