Reading Strategy

Follow these steps to read a word.

  • 1 Point to the spelling ch. Say the sound.

  • 2 Point to the next spelling. Say the sound.

  • 3 Point to the last spelling. Say the sound.

  • 4 Now blend all the sounds together to say the word. Say the word again. What is it?

    ch + i + n = chin

The letters ch make one sound. I blend 3 sounds to say chin.

Reading Practice

Blend the sounds to read these words.

  • 1. chin

  • 2. cup

  • 3. can

  • 4. catch

  • 5. jumps

  • 6. bug

Use what you learned to read the sentences.

  • 7. There is something in my cup.

  • 8. I can see it move.

  • 9. It is small and green.
