Contractions with not

When you make a contraction, you join two words together.

Read Sentences

Read the first sentence in each item. Then read the second sentence with the contraction. Listen to how the contraction sounds.

  • 1. Stan does not want this food. Stan doesn’t want this food.

  • 2. The grapes are not green. The grapes aren’t green.

  • 3. The sandwich is not fresh. The sandwich isn’t fresh.

  • 4. The cookies do not have raisins. The cookies don’t have raisins.

Read each sentence. Change the underlined words to a contraction. Then say the new sentence.
