Follow these steps to read a word.
1 Look for a pattern. The e makes the other vowel say a long vowel sound.
2 Start at the beginning. Blend the sounds in your head. Then say the word.
The e at the end of a word has no sound. It tells me that the vowel sound is long.
Use what you learned to read the sentences.
1. My mother likes to make cakes.
2. She says to use pure butter.
3. She melts the butter on the stove.
4. I taste the cake mix. Yum!
5. It’s fun to bake a cake at home!
6.–9. Now write the sentences that your teacher reads.
10.–21. Make a chart. Then read these words:
back | can | made | mad |
hop | heat | cane | rob |
note | hope | not | bake |
map | cake | dot | rope |
---|---|---|---|
10. | 13. | 16. | 19. |
11. | 14. | 17. | 20. |
12. | 15. | 18. | 21. |
Write each word in the chart. Put it under the word that has the same vowel sound.
