Pablo and his mother

Hi. My name is Pablo Soto. My mother’s name is Sandra. We are from Nicaragua.

In Nicaragua, our family made big puppets to sell. The name of one puppet that we made is La Gigantona. We made the head of this puppet with paper and paste. We made the eyes of the puppet really big, with long, thick lashes. We made the arms from long tubes. They swing from side to side. We put a white robe, a cute hat, and other things on the puppet. People like to watch this big puppet in parades.

My mother and I left Nicaragua together and came to Wisconsin. Here, we make piñatas. We make a piñata with paper and paste, just like we made the head of La Gigantona. One day, my friend’s father came to our store. He asked us to make a big puppet for a parade in Wisconsin. At last, La Gigantona is back in our family!
