Welcome to Black Creek Wetland. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! My name is Jean Clay. I am your guide. Step into the rowboat. Stay in your seat while we move through the water.
Canada has many wetlands. Black Creek Wetland is one of them. A wetland is a low, wet place. Rainwater and many streams or rivers keep it wet. Black Creek is on the shore of Lake Ontario. Plants such as reeds and cattails grow below the water here.
This is an important place for animals, too. Ducks and geese lay their eggs here once each year in May.
Sometimes, people around the world drain the water from wetlands. Then they use the land to grow wheat or other crops. Not here. We always plan to keep this wetland for the ducks, geese, and other animals.
