Compare Across Texts

Compare People

“Growing Together,” “Kids Like Me,” and “Familiar Places” tell about immigrants to the United States. Choose two people or groups of immigrants in the texts, and compare how they feel about their new homes.

How It Works

Collect and Organize Ideas Make a Venn Diagram to compare the feelings of two people you read about—Carmen and Liban. In the outside areas of the diagram, write different feelings that they have. In the center area, write feelings they share.

Practice Together

Study and Compare Ideas Use the information you collected in the Venn Diagram to write two sentences that compare Carmen’s and Liban’s feelings. In the first sentence, tell how their feelings are different. In the second sentence, tell how their feelings are the same.
