Carrying Goods

Boats carry people and things along the Columbia River. One type of boat is called a barge. It is a long, flat boat. Barges carry wheat, fuel, and other goods. They take their goods to cities like Astoria, Oregon.

The Columbia River empties into the Pacific Ocean near Astoria. From its beginning to its end, the river helps many people in many ways.
