The tense of a verb tells when an action happens.
• Add -ed to most verbs to show that an action already happened.
• Use special past tense forms for irregular verbs.
Present | Past | Example in the Past |

feel | felt | At first I felt tired. |
know | knew | I knew nothing about pyramids. |
see | saw | Then I saw pictures of them. |

Say each sentence. Choose the past tense form of the verb.
1. Last year, my parents (did/do) something amazing.
2. They (go/went) to Egypt.
3. Mom and Dad (felt/feel) so excited.
4. They (see/saw) some pyramids.
5. They (told/tell) us all about them.
6. We never (know/knew) that pyramids could be so interesting.
7. Mom and Dad (told/tell) us that they want to go back to Egypt some day.
Say each sentence. Write the past tense form of the verb on a card. Then hold up the card as you say the sentence with the past tense verb.
8. The professor (went/goes) to Egypt every year.
9. He (does/did) research on life in the past.
