Focus on Genre Organization of Ideas

In this unit, you learned about some ways writers organize their ideas. Choose a selection from the unit, and draw a diagram or other graphic that shows its organization. It could be a time line, a chart, or even a picture. Use your drawing to explain the organization of the selection to a partner.

Throughout this unit, you have been thinking about the drive to discover. Choose one of these ways to explore the Guiding Question:

• • Discuss With a group, discuss the Guiding Question. Remember, there can be many answers. What’s yours? Give details from the selections that support your idea.

• • Role-Play Imagine if people or characters from two different selections could meet and discuss the Guiding Question. With a partner, role-play their discussion. For example, what would Robert Ballard and Howard Carter say to each other?

• • Draw Create a visual interpretation of your answer to the Guiding Question.
