Vocabulary Study: Use Context Clues

A definition clue explains an unfamiliar word directly in the text.

A restatement clue gives the meaning in a different way.

Look at the context clues in this sentence from “Escaping to Freedom.” Notice how the phrase “or large farm” restates the meaning of plantation.
