Make Comparisons

People have many different kinds of homes, and you can compare them. Try one of these ideas:

  • • Compare your home with another home or an imaginary home.

  • • Compare your current home with one you used to live in.

  • • Compare the two most unusual homes you have seen.

Start your comparison with a Venn Diagram. In the outside sections, tell how the homes are different. In the center section, tell how the homes are the same or similar.

Use your diagram to organize your ideas about the two homes. Then share your comparison with a group.

How to Make Comparisons

  • 1. Tell how things are alike. Use words like all, both, the same, similar, and too.

  • 2. Tell how things are different. Use words like differ, different, only and but.

My new home is smaller than my old one, but it has a pretty garden.

Use Pronouns Correctly

When you make your comparison, be sure to use the correct subject pronouns and object pronouns.
