Imagine that you live in a country that does not allow its citizens to be free. How far would you go to fight for your rights? What would you do?
As a class, form two groups. With your group, brainstorm a list of tasks and dangers that someone might face in the fight for human rights. Write the list in your own notebook. Check off the tasks and dangers you would be willing to face.
Tasks and Dangers | Yes or No? |
---|---|
1. Go to prison | |
2. face armed soldiers | |
3. Risk death |
Now have a ”fishbowl” discussion with the other group. Form a circle with your chairs. Face inward, toward the center of the circle. The other group forms a circle around you. The outside group listens as your group members exchange opinions about fighting for human rights.
Switch positions and listen to the other group’s discussion. How is it different from your group’s discussion?
In your discussion, you may talk about people’s experiences or countries’ actions. Be sure to use possessive nouns correctly.
EXAMPLE | My family’s escape from Afghanistan was difficult. |
