Are you a fan of the night sky? On clear, starry nights, do you like to look up at the sparkling show? Ancient people liked to look at the sky. They noticed that groups of stars formed shapes and figures.
Over time, people learned more and more about the night sky. They invented instruments, like the telescope, to study distant objects in the sky.
Today, people continue to explore the sky to learn about the universe. They also enjoy just looking up at the twinkling, bright lights!

Colorful Planets
The red-orange color of Mars comes from the rusty soil and dust on its surface.
The planets come in a rainbow of colors. Earth usually appears light blue with patches of white in photos. What about some of the other planets? Mars is fiery orange and red. Venus and Saturn tend to be pale yellow. Jupiter, the largest planet, has orange and white bands.
