How would you like to help reduce light pollution in your community? Make a persuasive presentation for city leaders!

  • 1 Begin Your Research Work with a partner. Notice the streetlights and other outdoor lights in your community. Brainstorm ways to reduce light pollution.

  • 2 Identify Your Audience Find out who could take action to solve the problem. Your audience might be a person, such as the mayor or a business owner, or a group, such as the city council.

  • 3 State Your Position Write a statement that expresses an opinion about the topic. You should use this as an interesting introduction for your presentation.

  • 4 Collect Data Find facts to support your position, such as how laws in other towns have helped. Organize your facts and make notes for your presentation. Make or find charts, drawings, or other visuals. Include photos, if possible, and quotes from experts. Then write a conclusion that restates your position in a powerful way.
