Tell What Happened

Retell a Story

Did you enjoy the rap and the story you listened to on page 539? How would you retell the story? What would you say?

First, think about what happened. Make a time line to help you remember which event happened first, next, and so on.

Time Line

Time Line

Look at the events on your time line. Think about how you could tell each part in your own words. Practice your version of the story. Be sure to tell the events in the right order.

Now retell the story to a partner. Speak with enthusiasm. Use facial expressions to show emotions and gestures to show action. You may even want to act out parts of the story.

Use Complex Sentences

When you retell your story, use complex sentences to express some of the actions and events. This will show how events are related. It will also make your story sound smooth.

Simple Sentences:The girl was very surprised.
She floated up into the air.
