Draft

When you draft, you begin writing. Use the ideas you gathered in your detail chart to begin your draft. Write a paragraph.

Dear Jim,
You won’t believe what happened. I was sitting in a restaurant with Lynn. We were talking about the bake sale.

Revise

When you revise a draft, you make your writing better. First, you need to know what a reader thinks of your work. Sadaf read her paper to a partner.

Then Sadaf knew she needed to make a change.

Now follow these steps to revise your letter.

  • 1 DECIDE WHAT TO CHANGE

Read to a partner. Ask your partner to tell what happened in your letter. See if they understood what you wrote. Do you need to add details to tell the whole story?

  • 2 MARK YOUR CHANGES

If you need to add some text, use this mark: illustration of caret insertion mark that looks like an upside down V.
