A story has three important parts: character, setting, and plot. When you make up a story, you can invent your own people, places, and events. Some stories are like real life. Other stories are make-believe.
Short Story: Anything is Possible
by Sarah Jenkins
Alex and Emma walked outside on a sunny, warm Saturday. They were going to the bike store to look for new helmets.
At the store, a woman said, “Hello.” She pointed to a red bike in the window. “We’re giving this bike away in ten minutes. Write your name on a ticket.”
“We won’t win,” Emma said to Alex.
“Anything is possible,” Alex said as he wrote his name on a ticket.
Emma went to look at helmets at the back of the store. Alex waited with the other kids at the front of the store. Alex knew he might not win. But he still felt excited.
Soon the woman walked to a large basket and pulled out a name. She said in a loud voice, “The winner of the new bike is Alex Sanchez!”
Emma ran over to Alex. “I can’t believe it! You won!” she said.
He couldn’t believe it, either. He felt very excited. That was the day he learned that anything is possible.
