GARDEN CITY — The Special Olympics State Summer Games were such a big hit this weekend at Bridge Park. About 3,000 athletes, coaches, and volunteers came from around the state. Tents were set up in a field by the trees. It became an Olympic village. People walked to other tents and talked with each other.

The rock band Thumbs Up was asked to give a concert at the edge of the park to open the games. A huge crowd came to see the band. Some lucky fans even got to go on stage and sing with the band.
