GIVE DIRECTIONS
1.–2. Who’s talking?
Listen. Two students are giving directions to the pioneers.
What route is each student describing? Trace it on the map.
3. Work with a partner. Draw the outline of the United States. Mark where you are now. Where do you want to go? Label the landforms along the way. Have your partner label the cities. Then take turns writing directions to get there.
3. How to go to Washington, D.C., in the northeastern part of the country:
• Start in New Orleans. Go north along the Mississippi River.
• Follow the Ohio River east. Keep going east until you get to Washington, D.C.
