WRITING PROMPT Find interesting facts about two things in outer space, then write a poem that compares them. Share the facts and your poem to inform and entertain your classmates.
When you prewrite, you gather ideas and choose your topic. You also make a plan for what you will write. Follow these steps.
1 COLLECT IDEAS
Think about objects in outer space that are very different but can be compared in some way. List noun pairs. Think about which idea is best. Remember why you are writing. Remember who will read your poem. Now choose an idea.
Here is Jana’s list. She chose to compare the Sun and the Moon.
2 GATHER INFORMATION
Start by finding interesting facts about your two objects. You can use the Internet and other research tools. Write the facts on cards.
