SINGULAR AND PLURAL NOUNS

EXAMPLES

Noncount nouns are nouns that you cannot count. A noncount noun does not have a plural form.

My favorite museum has furniture and art.
Sometimes I wonder how much money each item is worth.

Types of Noncount Nouns

Food
bread	cereal	cheese	corn	flour	I’ll drink some water on my way to the game.
lettuce	meat	milk	rice	salt
soup	sugar	tea	water
You can count some food items by using a measurement word like cup, slice, glass, or head plus the word of. To show the plural form, just make the measurement word plural.					I’ll drink two glasses of water on my way to the game.

Materials
air	fuel	gasoline	gold		The radio says the air is heavy. What does that mean?

Weather

Some words have more than one meaning. Add -s for the plural only if the noun means something you can count.

Throw me those baseballs.
I want to learn to play baseball.
