Decodable Passage 10

The View from Space

Major Cooper looked out the window at the view below. The Earth gleamed like wet dew on a very large jewel. Thin wisps of clouds floated by a yellow moon.

The major squeezed the stuffed kangaroo that Lewis gave her before she left. Suddenly, she missed her two boys. Her crew’s mission was good for her career. Still, sometimes it was hard to be away from her kids. It seemed like they grew like bamboo shoots while she was away. Soon, she would be home.

Major Cooper turned on her computer and saw that she had a new message. She hooted when she saw that it was an e-mail from Lewis.

Dear Mom,

We hope you have a blast in space. It’s so cool that you could go.

Tonight we think we saw your space craft. It wasn’t a star, because it did not blink. It wasn’t a planet, either. IT HAD TO BE YOU!

We miss you so much, but Dad has been taking good care of us. We have not had one fast food meal yet. (Boo hoo!) Dad made stew, and we couldn’t chew it!

Boots got into real trouble. We went to the beach today. Boots got loose and ate a rotten fish, or maybe a crab. It stank! None of us would let her kiss us after that! We had to shampoo her when we got home.

It’s time for bed. We send you big hugs and hope you have a smooth trip.
