Use a form of the verb be to tell what someone or something is like.
Forms of Be: am, is, are
The form of be you use depends on your subject. These subjects and verbs go together.
I + am | I am a clever rabbit. I like to trick the fox. |
he + is | The fox is not very smart. He asks the bird for help. |
she + is | She is full of ideas! She gives the fox a good idea. |
it + is | It is funny when the fox tricks the rabbit. |
we + are | The bird tells the fox, “We are the only animals who can outsmart the rabbit.” |
you + are | The fox tells the bird, “You are the smartest animal in the land!” |
they + are | The fox and the bird are friends. They are happy to teach the rabbit a lesson. |
Read each sentence aloud. Choose the correct form of the verb be.
1. It (is /are) a lovely day.
2. The sun is out and the sky (is /are) clear.

4. I like to feed carrots to the rabbits. They (is /are) happy to have the delicious carrots.
