Ask for and Give Information

Most people can remember a play they saw in school, at a theater, or on TV. Write the name of a play you know about on a sheet of paper. Trade with a partner. Then share ideas. You ask the questions, and your partner gives the information.

Plan your questions. Think about what you could ask your friend. Make a chart.

Question WordThe Answer Will BeQuestion
Who?a personWho is the star of the play?
What?a thing or an actionWhat does the main character do?
When?a time
Where?a place
Why?a reason
How?an explanation

Now ask your partner your questions, and listen to the answers. Take notes. Then trade roles.

Use Subjects and Verbs

When you give information, the action verbs you use need to agree with the subjects of your sentences. Check your verbs. Remember, add -s to the verb if the subject is one other person, one place, or one thing.

One person:The actor acts in the play.
More than one person:The actors act in the play.
