Describe an Event or Experience

Have you ever been on a journey? Have you ever wanted to take a journey to someplace special? Make a storyboard about the journey you have taken or want to take. Add details about your journey.

We left early.

We left early.

The tire was totally flat.

The tire was totally flat.

We piled our stuff nearby.

We piled our stuff nearby.

Now use the storyboard to share your experience with a partner. Describe your journey to your partner. Then listen carefully as your partner describes his or her experience.

Use Adverbs

When you describe an event or experience, you need to add details that tell when, where, and how things happened. Use adverbs to make your description more interesting. Many adverbs that tell how end in -ly.

Tells how: We waited patiently while Dad changed the flat tire.

Tells when: Because of the flat tire, we arrived late to my aunt’s house.

Tells where: It’s a good thing my aunt lives nearby!
