Listening/Speaking: Deliver an Informative Presentation
HEALTH & SCIENCE

HEALTH & SCIENCE

In “The Human Machine,” you learned about the major systems in the human body that control the body processes. Choose a body process to deliver a presentation on.

  • 1 Choose a Topic Choose a body process you want to learn more about. Below are several suggestions for a topic:

    • • bad breath

    • • belching

    • • ear wax

    • • hiccups

    • • pimples

    • • scabs

    • • stomach growling

    • • stuffy nose

  • 2 Research the Topic Think of information you want to find out about your topic, and write questions. Look for resources online or at the library that provide answers to your questions. Use a chart like the one below to guide your research:

    QuestionAnswer
    What causes this body process?
What is happening when this process occurs?
What are effects of this process?
  • 3 Prepare Your Presentation Follow these steps to prepare your presentation:

    • 1. Organize your presentation. Turn each research question into a subtopic. These will be the main points of your presentation. Your answers to each question will be the supporting details for each main point. Be sure you have facts, examples, and explanations for each point.

    • 2. Find pictures, video clips, or other visual aids to show during your presentation. They can also help explain and give examples of your points.

    • 3. Practice your presentation in front of another classmate or a mirror.

  • 4 Deliver Your Presentation Deliver your presentation to your class. Remember to speak clearly and slowly. Use a tone of voice and facial expressions to show that you are interested in your topic. When you are finished, answer any questions that the class may have.
