Make Comparisons

Lots of things change over time, like our hair styles and clothing fashions. Look at the photos. How are the teens from the past and present alike? How are they different?

With a partner, use an Idea Web to list some ways you might compare the teens.

Now take turns telling each other how you would compare the teens.

Use Present and Past Tense Verbs

When you make comparisons, you might tell about how styles and customs are right now. If so, use a present tense verb. Or you may tell about customs and styles from the past. If so, use a past tense verb.

In the Present:Athletes dress more comfortably today than they did in the past.
In the Past:Female athletes dressed in long skirts in the past.
