Summary: An Explorer’s Point of View
Illustration of Native Americans greeting French explorers.
SUMMARY
The speaker described his recent experience in the New World to some of his countrymen and women. He proudly claimed new land for his country. He realized that there were people already there, and he felt he made friends with them. The native people showed the explorers how to grow new crops. Unfortunately, the explorers brought illness to these people that killed many of them. Also, the explorers took some of the natives’ land, but the speaker felt that there was lots of land to share. He planned to return to this new land with his family.
