Use Nouns in the Subject and Predicate

A complete sentence has two parts: the subject and the predicate.

The dogs subject pull the sleds. predicate

The subject tells who or what you are talking about. The predicate tells what the subject does.

  • • Nouns can be the subject of a sentence.

EXAMPLEThe dogs subject pull the sleds.
  • • Nouns can also be the object of an action verb. To find the object, turn the verb into a question like: “Dogs pull what?” Your answer is the object.

EXAMPLEThe dogs pull verb the sleds object.
  • • Many English sentences follow this pattern: subject → verb → object.

EXAMPLEChris subject interviewed object mushers verb.
