Imagine you are having an emergency and you need to call for help. What information would you need to provide? What questions might the 911 operator ask you?
Work with a partner to plan a 911 call script like the one on page 441. Think of an emergency, such as an accident. Make a list of the information you would need to provide a 911 operator. Add questions to the list that the 911 operator might ask.
Information to Provide | Questions Operator Might Ask |
---|---|
A car just crashed into the house across the street. | Where do you live? |
Now take turns being the caller and the 911 operator. Clarify and verify information.
When you clarify and verify information, you may need to use prepositions to add important details about locations, directions, and time.
EXAMPLES | I see smoke coming under the door. |
My brother fell down the steps. The fire started at ten o’clock. |
