A noun can be the subject of a sentence or the object of a verb in the predicate.
A pronoun refers to a noun. Like a noun, it can also be the subject of a sentence or the object of a verb. Study the chart. Which pronouns are the same for subject and object?
Subject Pronouns | I | you | he | she | it | we | you | they |
Object Pronouns | me | you | him | her | it | us | you | them |
• Use a subject pronoun as the subject of a sentence.
EXAMPLES | Misty is our cat. She likes milk. |
The milk is fresh. It came from the store. |
• Use an object pronoun as the object of the verb.
EXAMPLES | Misty drinks the milk. She drinks it from a dish. |
Misty catches mice. She leaves them by the door. |
Remember, most English statements follow this pattern: subject → verb → object.
